من دبي إلى أبوظبي: أمور يجب مراعاتها قبل استئجار سيارة فاخرة
Why the Dubai to Abu Dhabi drive deserves a little planning
The drive between Dubai and Abu Dhabi is one of the easiest road trips in the UAE: roughly 90 minutes of wide, well-lit highway linking two very different cities. That is exactly why so many visitors and residents choose to rent a car from Dubai to Abu Dhabi instead of relying on taxis or coaches.
A luxury car makes the trip better, but it also raises the stakes. Rental rules, deposits, toll systems, mileage limits and insurance all change the real cost of the day. This guide covers what to check before you book, so the only thing you think about on the road is the drive. The route: distance, time, speed limits and tolls
The drive: distance, time, speed restrictions and tolls
The vast majority will head for the E11 (Dubai's Sheikh Zayed Road), which covers 140 kilometers from one center to another in 90 minutes, not counting traffic hours. The E311 (Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Road) is a popular choice if the coastal road is congested.
Speed restrictions in the open roads are 140 km/h, but they decrease around urban areas and junctions, and radars are all over the place. With an adequate vehicle, you won't mind going over the limit; use the cruise control to avoid that.
The toll is what many renters overlook. Both cities have electronic toll booths based on number plates, and the rental company passes the charges to you after the trip.
Toll system
Where
Charge
When it applies
Salik
Gates across Dubai, including on the E11
AED 4–6 per crossing (variable pricing)
Every day; higher at peak times
Darb
Bridges onto Abu Dhabi island, plus newer gates
AED 4 per crossing
Bridge gates: 7–9 AM and 3–7 PM, Monday to Saturday; Sundays free
Since the daily toll limit has been abolished by Abu Dhabi since September 2025, any crossing during peak hours needs to be taken into account (Shory, OneClickDrive). Inquire from your car rental agency whether the car is enrolled at Darb and how much additional fee does the administration collects for each crossing aside from the toll itself; some agencies take AED 1-5 per crossing.
Tip: to enter Abu Dhabi Island at pre-7 AM, post-9 AM until 3 PM, or post-7 PM would save you the Darb fee entirely.
What documents are required, and who can rent a car in Abu Dhabi or Dubai?
Are you interested in how to rent a car in Abu Dhabi? The procedure is no different from that of renting a car in Dubai: you just need to present your valid ID and license, sign the contract, and pay for rental and deposit.
Age rules are stricter for luxury cars. Many companies accept drivers from 21 for standard cars, but often ask for 25 or older, and sometimes a minimum of one or two years of driving history, for high-end SUVs, sports cars and supercars.
The booking steps are simple:
1. Choose the car and confirm the full price, including VAT, insurance, and delivery.
2. Send your documents for verification, usually by WhatsApp or email.
3. Pay the rental and the security deposit.
4. Inspect the car at handover, photograph any marks, and check the fuel level.
5. Return the car with the agreed fuel level and wait for the deposit release.
Rent a car in Abu Dhabi: what luxury rates look like
Rent a car rates in Abu Dhabi and Dubai move with the model, the season, and the rental length. November to March is peak season, and daily prices rise as tourism picks up. Weekly and monthly bookings bring the daily cost down sharply.
.Mileage limit Many luxury rentals include 250 km per day. A Dubai to Abu Dhabi return trip is about 280 km before any city driving, so ask about the extra-kilometer charge or an unlimited-mileage option.
• VAT: Some companies quote prices excluding the 5% VAT.
• Insurance level. Basic cover often carries a high excess; full cover costs more but limits your liability.
• Delivery and collection. Free within one city is common; cross-city delivery or drop-off may cost extra.
• Tolls, fuel, and fines. All are charged to you after the rental, often with an admin fee.
The deposit is used to cover the tolls, parking fines, and any damages that only become evident after the return of the car. The deposit amount for a luxury and sport car rental in Dubai is usually in thousands of dirhams and is mostly kept for a period of 14 to 30 days.
Rent a car without a deposit in Abu Dhabi
No-deposit car rentals have started getting quite popular in Abu Dhabi and Dubai. Mostly, a deposit is not waived but substituted by an extra non-refundable daily charge or a higher level of insurance. Before you go on to booking the car, make sure that you know the following things about the service:
•What types of cars are available without a deposit? Supercars will be unlikely to come under that list.
•How much is the daily no-deposit charge?
•How are the fines and toll charges recovered when there is no deposit to make those deductions from?•
• Choosing the right luxury car for the trip
